Thanks for posting this! I purchased the full set and found the explanations to be extremely helpful. It was well worth the $30 dollars. Lots of LR material is out there, but this is one of the better items that I've come across.
First thanks so much for making this outline for us!. I have to post such a long question, but cant help myself! I really want to understand this concept and why I got it wrong. PT 38, Section 1, Number 7.
This confused me. I assumed that “illustration of principle meant the same thing as “parallel the argument” so I identified two points in the stimulus and used them to analyze answer choices:
The stimulus explicitly states that one category is better than another at performing the task (whatever that task may be), and then as a result explicitly states that the better performing category should perform the task.
But it looks like you guys took a more contextual approach when analyzing the stimulus – so does that mean that an “illustration of principle” answer choice should actually mimic the principle in terms of the actual actions being performed, etc, rather than paralleling the structure of the principle?
When I say contextual aspects of the stimulus I mean: What was ACTUALLY being performed (Catching errors) and why (because it is someone else, not you … rather than simply because another category is better at the task). I hope this makes sense.
Still confused, but assuming it’s because I mistakenly treated it as a parallel question and looked for structural parallels, and “illustration of principle” seems to mean more of mimicking the actual situation given in the stimulus.
When narrowing it down I was stuck between answer choices C and D and chose C because I saw two categories being compared - and the answer choice explicitly stated that the better performing category should perform whatever given task.
For PT 32, Section 1, Question 3, the answer choice C is marked correct but the explanation for D shows why it is correct. I'm guessing that D is the right answer and the notation marking it correct was just misplaced. Just a head's up so no one's confused :-)
Are there also PDF's of explanations for the PrepTests before and after this particular set?
ReplyDeleteHi Anjelica,
ReplyDeleteYes - you can also get Logical Reasoning explanations for more recent exams - please see this list of LSAT books.

Appreciate any guidance or feedback!
