LSAT Blog February 2012 LSAT Questions AnswersThe February 2012 LSAT might seem far off, but it'll be here before you know it. What would you like to see on the blog between now and then?

Please leave your questions for me (and for each other) in the comments, I'll do my best to answer as many of your questions as possible between now and February.

Also, if you're looking for general advice on improving in Logic Games, Logical Reasoning, or Reading Comprehension, please note that I've already written plenty of blog posts on these topics and have integrated them into my LSAT study schedules.

Quick request: please leave a name rather than posting as "Anonymous." It makes it easier for everyone to respond to specific comments. Thanks!

  1. Hi Steve, I'm deciding whether I should take the Feb LSAT, perhaps an issue many out there might worry about. It's a shame that Feb test is undisclosed.. In your point of view, if I don't hit my target score (170+) by the beginning of January, would you say that taking the test in February is too risky and perhaps not that beneficial? Because well, normally I might get a score below my expectation but at least I will get an access to the exam and some feedback on which questions I got wrong. I already have one cancel in my record, and wouldn't want to cancel the test again... meaning if I take it, I get the score, period. I'm studying for the Feb test but I am not hitting my target score yet. I'm working full time so the most I can devote to LSAT study daily is max 4-5 hours. Thank you in advance for your help!

  2. Hi Steve,

    Any advice or insight you can give about February tests that are different from the others would be great. I've heard a lot that the February test is "different" in some respect, but of the same general difficulty.

    For me, this has come to mean that there is something about the test in February that will seem somewhat different from the preptests that I've been going over, as per your 3 month, day-by-day study schedule.

    I'll apologize in advance if you've already written a lengthy and helpful blog post about this.

  3. Hi Steve which sets of practice exams are best to focus on? I want to purchase the PDF explanations and want to know which sets to prioritize.

  4. Hi Steve,

    What do you recommend when I read the stimulus and have no idea what it means... What do I do in this situation?

    You don't need to decide in early January - you have until the day before the LSAT to withdraw your registration if you're not scoring at 170+. I would certainly recommend withdrawing at that time if you're not where you need to be with your practice tests.

    @Anthony
    It's not different in any way except for the fact that it's undisclosed.

    @Anonymous
    My LSAT study plans give plenty of advice regarding the use of practice tests. Anyone studying should be sure to get the most recent exams. For those interested, the PrepTests are available as PDFs through the blog.

    @Jen
    Read it again.

    Okay, maybe that wasn't the most helpful response, although I'm perfectly serious. It's perfectly fine to do a double-take if necessary. If you're dealing with an argument (as you usually will be), focus on identifying the conclusion. Everything starts there. Then find the evidence and determine the author's method of reasoning.

  6. Hi Steve,

    Was wondering if you had the explanations for all the games in Section 3 of the September 2009 LSAT as well as Game 3 in Section 1 of the December 2009 LSAT.
    I do apologize in advance if you already have posts out there that I have yet to find.

    Thanks =)

  8. Steve, in Logic Games, what's the best and efficient way to solve max/min questions?

  10. Dear Steve,

    I was told to register for the exam some time ago before I had even begin studying. Before the date came around, I knew for sure that I wasn't ready, and postponed it. Since that time, I didn't know/understand how to withdraw online and continued to postpone it (always before the deadline) because in the meanwhile I had another commitment which I knew would delay me from applying to law school for several cycles. I accrued a lot of fees from this, but my more persistent worry is that the many postponements I did will show up on my LSAT record, as well as the financial balance I paid, all of which will make me appear flaky. Can you comment on my situation? Thanks.

  11. @Jen - It varies between games. There's no "one way" to do it.

    @Anonymous - Don't worry - law schools won't know that you postponed. See this post on withdrawals for more information.

  12. I hope you dont have this written anywhere, i just didnt know what words to use for a search, but...

    1) Do you get a new scantron for each section when taking the test?
    2) Are you allowed to drink or eat some of your snack in the middle of a section?
    3) Do the pencils have to wood or can mechanical work?
    4) Do the bubbles have to be completely filled in or can almost filled in work (i know we would want to be safe and fill them completely in, but lets just say for a slow test taker like me, taking as little time as possible to circle in will help some)?
    5) This might be weird, but can we take off our shoes during the test? My feet dont stink promise, but i study better if i can tuck a foot under my leg. ;o)

    Thanks in advance!

  13. Oh, forgot to ask for you opinion on this:

    I just cant seem to get better on RC. I have less than 2 weeks left. I can also afford to do better on LR and LG, but im decent enough. If i work on only RC passages for 4-5 days, would that be a dumb move instead of just taking practice test and reviewing for all sections?

    Pretend rescheduling was not an option.

  14. Hey Steve,

    I'm taking the LSAT in February, but I'm hoping to attend law school this fall. The problem is that I dont have anything ready. I heard that as long as you turn something in by the deadline (February 1) then you can turn the rest (personal statement, recommendation letters, and resume) in by the time your score comes out. I'm not quite sure how true this is...have you heard of anything like this before?

    Anyways, I just fell onto your blog. I do wish I found it earlier!

  15. Pris you have to have everything in by the deadline. Sometimes you can ask the school for an exception, but that is rare if they grant it.

  16. @Trudy

    1. No, it's the same scantron sheet for the entire test.
    2. A sip of water, perhaps, but you're unlikely to be able to eat during. Depends on your proctor. Save it for the break!
    3. Wood.
    4. Depends on what you mean by almost.
    5. You can probably take them off. Depends on the proctors and tolerance of those sitting near you to any potential stinkiness. :)
    6. Don't do only RC for 4-5 days, but emphasize it on the days you're not doing full-length practice tests.

  17. Gracias, Senor!

    I notice when I bubble in I dont sometimes get to the complete edges of the circle.

    I wish it didn't take me a full day just to review a practice test. But cool, I won't do that then, wasn't sure if it was a dumb move and with the limited time I needed to make sure.

  18. Does the RC section present passages more or less according to difficulty? And/or does the more questions a passage has mean that its a harder passage?

    I hope, hope you see this soon ;o)

  19. Also, any tips you have to stop mind wandering during the reading of LR questions. I find myself somtines thinking about how well (or not) doing or whatever, n I take too long refocusing.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Oh, I'm asking BC its different from games or RC where taking a few seconds / minute is OK, BC there are 25 LR questions and doing that every few questions is prob not so smart. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  21. @Trudy -

    1. No particular order of difficulty on RC, and # of questions isn't necessarily an indication of difficulty.

    2. Focus on the conclusion, then the evidence, then attempt to determine how reasonable the argument is.

  22. OK, so i just took the test, and im pretty sure 80% that i am going to cancel the score. While i confident that i got answers right, i didnt finish as many games or reading passages as i needed to guarantee the score ineed.

    Can you tell me, or direct me to the link on your site, that would tell me what now? How do i properly prepare for the June or Sept test if i have taken all but 2-3 preptest out there?

    thank you in advance. PS i was able to take off my shoes, lol.

  23. @Trudy - Sorry to hear it! Take a look at my retake-related schedules here: http://lsatblog.blogspot.com/p/month-lsat-study-schedules-plans.html

    Glad you were able to take off your shoes after all, though!

  24. Yeah, and they didnt smell. I may not be a nutural born test taker, but i was blessed with feet that dont smell. It has been confirmed by various people :o)

    Anyways.....ok, thanks! Its a bummer i have to retake but i think it wasnt a complete waste. Thank you for all your help!
